Similar to last year's sudden launch of the new Model 3, the new Model Y variant has appeared on Tesla's website without any official preview. On January 10th, the refreshed Model Y officially landed on Tesla China's website, with the First Edition model starting at 263,500 yuan for pre-sale. The new vehicle brings various upgrades in exterior design, cabin features, and range performance.
In terms of exterior design, the new model features completely redesigned front fascia, front and rear lights, rear diffuser, wheels, and side mirrors. Notably, it introduces the world's first diffused reflective taillights, becoming one of the most distinctive visual identifiers of the new Model Y. The new Model Y achieves 0-100 km/h acceleration in as fast as 4.3 seconds and has gained over 30 kilometers in range, reaching up to 719 kilometers (CLTC estimated) with the lowest energy consumption of 11.9Wh/km (CLTC conditions). For the cabin, the new model adds ambient lighting, ventilated front seats, and a 15mm extended rear seat. Additionally, it features a silver-coated panoramic glass roof, upgrading the vehicle's sun protection and heat insulation capabilities. On the same day as the new Model Y launch, the Model 3 rear-wheel drive version's range was increased to 634 kilometers (CLTC), adding 28 kilometers. Model Y and Model 3 are Tesla's main sales drivers, with approximately 1.704 million units delivered last year. The Model Y is expected to maintain its position as the world's best-selling passenger vehicle model. Last year, Tesla experienced its first sales decline in over a decade, with annual deliveries of 1.7892 million vehicles, down 1.1% from 1.81 million in 2023. Due to deliveries falling short of expectations, Tesla's market value dropped by over 500 billion yuan on the day of the data release.
